Production of carbide blanks for dies Tekhpostavka LLC

When drawing wire, bars, strip and tubes, the wear resistance of the part is of decisive importance, since significant loads and temperatures are typical for this process. Therefore, very wear-resistant hard materials are needed.
One of the promising directions of our company — this is the production of hard-alloy blanks for dies (dies).
Carbide die she is dragging — this is a tool through which a wire is pulled, bars of various sections. As it passes through the die, the wire (rod) becomes thinner and stretches. Single reductions in a carbide die are up to 30% and depend on the technological process. Carbide dies come in different outer diameters.
Die geometry is a determining factor in the drawing process to obtain a constant and uniform cold deformation. Only in this case, the product after drawing has good plastic properties.
Their basis is most often tungsten carbides. The so-called "binder" is used as a matrix to hold grains of solid material in the product. — metal or alloy. Usually as a "bundle" use cobalt.
Obtaining hard alloys by powder metallurgy consists of the following successive operations:
- Obtaining powders of tungsten carbides and cobalt.
- Crushing and mixing of powders of tungsten carbides and cobalt in mixers (ball mills).
- Addition of plasticizer and pressing in special molds corresponding to the shape and dimensions of the product, using hydraulic or mechanical presses.
- Sintering blanks at 1400‑1500°C in argon. Cobalt melts and wets carbide powders; when cooled, cobalt crystallizes, connecting carbide particles together. The plasticizer burns out during the sintering process.
- Sintered blanks of carbide products, if necessary, are machined with a diamond tool. A wear-resistant coating is applied to the surface of some types of products to improve cutting properties.
For the manufacture of die blanks, tungsten carbide powders are used. The table shows the composition and properties of hard alloys used for the manufacture of dies.
VKZ alloy has the highest wear resistance with high strength. VK3 alloy dies are used for wet drawing of thin wire. Also, the internal geometry of the die differs from the dry drawing die.
VK6 alloy has lower wear resistance than VK3, but has higher strength and chipping resistance. Recommended for wire diameters over 0.6 mm.
VK8 alloy — drawing, calibrating and pressing bars and tubes made of steel, non-ferrous metals and their alloys. For wear parts of machines, devices and measuring tools operating under low impact loads.
VK10 alloys with a higher cobalt content are used for extra thick wire and rods.
BK15 Alloy — for cutting knives
VK20 alloy — for the production of hardware by upsetting.
Sometimes titanium carbides are introduced into the hard alloy. With this technology, adhesion to the surface of steel and refractory metals (tungsten and molybdenum) is reduced. In addition, the coefficient of friction decreases at high temperatures. This makes it possible to use dies made of such alloys in hot and high-speed drawing; titanium additions also increase the wear resistance of the die. Depending on the diameter of the produced wire, carbide blanks of various sizes and weights are used for the manufacture of drawing dies. Carbide billets are also used for shaped dies.
Die blanks are produced in raw form. Finishing of the drag channel is carried out in spunbond workshops. The dimensions and shape of the die channel depend on the properties of the metal being drawn, the amount of reduction, the quality of the lubricant, and other drawing conditions.
A distinctive feature of our products is the exceptional quality of carbide products. This quality is achieved due to the following main factors:
- the use of advanced technologies in the field of powder pressing, namely, the latest generation of presses, which provide three-stroke bidirectional pressing spaced in time, that is, pre-pressing, synchronous pressing, pre-pressing. This ensures uniform density of the workpiece, consistency in size, weight, and ultimately the integrity of the workpiece;
- when sintering products from tungsten alloys, equipment unique for Ukraine — vacuum-compression furnaces that ensure product quality through the highest uniformity of temperature distribution in vacuum and under pressure.
Our company manufactures drawing blanks of any standard sizes (including non-standard ones) both according to existing state standards and according to customer's sketches. All our products are individually designed and manufactured with the highest precision, we control the entire process chain from the production of mixtures to the final product.
